HOUSE SYSTEM

Our school has a house system comprising of four Houses:-

Ty Coch

Ty Melyn

Ty Gwyrdd

Ty Glas

Every form group is put into a house in Year 7 and that form stays in that house until the end of year 11.

Each department throughout the school contributes towards the house system by holding numerous events and awarding house points.  A large majority of these events and points then go towards the very successful whole school Eisteddfod.  This is held at the end of February every year, which lasts the day.  Students perform on stage events ranging from singing and dancing to role-play and recitations.

A good number of sporting events are also held throughout the year including swimming galas, football, netball and rounders tournaments.  On the last week of the school year there is a whole school sports day.  This is held in Aberdare athletics stadium and every student who wishes to participate and all the school’s staff are transported up to the stadium for the day.  The winning house being presented with the sports day cup.

At the beginning of September all the points from all the events are then totalled up and a shield presented to the winning house.

Physical Education and School Sports Centre

Becoming a Physical Education and School Sports Centre was no easy task but a determined effort from our P.E. department in partnership with our feeder schools clinched the deal for us. What does this mean for all of us?   It means that there is now funding available for our staff to go out into our primary and infant schools and  pass on a range of sporting skills to staff who in turn can teach their students.  Head of Girls P. E. Mrs Angela Williams is out teaching gymnastics to years 3, 4 5 & 6 Whilst Mrs Ceri Grech delivers dance to reception classes and Years 1 & 2. "It has just been such a brilliant experience teaching the younger students.  They have all been so enthusiastic and keen to learn.  We hope that our lessons with them will accelerate their learning by the time they join us in Year 7," said Mrs Williams.

NATIONAL HONOURS

Our school is very proud of all of the achievements that our students obtain, both in and out of school. We have two main ceremonies in our academic year which recognises these achievements which are the Prize PresentationCeremony and our annual Achievement Award Evening.

Our Prize Presentation Evening is an event which celebrates the academic, pastoral and sporting success of our students. The hall is usually full of over 200 students who receive an array of trophies and awards from our invited guest.

We have a national honours board in our reception area where we proudly display the names of all those students who have achieved national honours in their sport.

The following students are some of those who have represented our country in their chosen sport:-
