Friends of Porth County
The Friends of Porth County is our school P.T.A. established in the 1980s when a group of teachers and parents got together in order to raise funds for the school. The group is made up of hardworking, dedicated people who generously give their time and energy to the school. Many thousands of pounds have been donated to school in various ways.
Our aims are:
- To raise funds which can be used for the benefit of current students and the school
- To consider a request from any department within the school for assistance with ventures beneficial to the current students of the school
- To consider a request from individual current students of the school for financial assistance when representing the school or county.
The main fund raising event is the annual RCT Junior Fun Run where youngsters from far and wide join with their families in a fun day of fundraising. All schools in RCT are contacted and everyone who takes part is encouraged to obtain sponsorship for their own school or group. It has been the custom to obtain a sponsor for the race and The Friends are grateful to all those companies who have been kind enough to support this event.
The Fun Run starts!
A variety of successful events are organised, from raffles, cheese and wine evening and the annually popular discos for Key Stage 3 students. Support has always been given to those students who have represented the school on a national and international level as well as donating funds to departments for various events. Sponsorship has also been given to the events organised by the GNVQ students as part of their course.

The library too has benefited from a large donation; however, the greatest accomplishment has been the purchase of the first school minibus. After a lot of hard work ‘The Friends’ managed to raise over half the cost of the minibus and countless students have been able to enjoy the comfort of their own bus to many venues. In 2005 a second minibus was purchased again with the help of ‘The Friends’.

Meetings are informal and are usually held the first Tuesday of each month. New members and fresh ideas are always welcome – please contact any of the staff members named below if you are interested in joining the group.
