Department of Science
Our department is very successful. All students are encouraged to maximise their potential against national standards (examination results at Key Stage 4 are well above Local Education Authority and G.C.S.E. standards.)

The department operates a very effective ‘accelerated curriculum programme’ and as a consequence students at our school are encouraged to complete G.C.S.E. Science examinations in years 9 and 10. The standard of achievement within all classes is excellent.
Key Stage 4 courses (GCSE)
Students will have the opportunity to complete the following courses according to their ability.
1) Core Science
2) Additional Science
3) Separate Science – Physics, Chemistry and Biology.
4) Applied Science (dual award)
All courses are with the WJEC board.
Key Stage 5 courses (level 3 )
The following Post-16 courses are available:-
- Biology A/S and A level.
- Chemistry A/S and A level
- Physics A/S and A level
- Electronics A/S and A level
- B Tech National Award – Applied Biology
Resources:
We have nine laboratories, which are well equipped. Two of the rooms have a suite of computers, which are connected to our school network. Our department also is well resourced with interactive whiteboards, lap tops, and projectors.
Our department is staffed with three technicians each having their own expertise, whilst also working as a team to support our department they also reproduce a vast amount of revision resources to support our students in their learning, as well as assisting both staff and students during practical sessions.
