The Department of Information Technology

Our department has recently been completely refurbished and now has four full sized classrooms and one smaller dedicated suite. In total we now have 128 brand new machines available for use in the main IT rooms.

The Staff consists of two specialist teachers Mr. Alun Moore, Curriculum Co-ordinator and Mrs. Ceri Miles plus Mr. Clive Bushell and Mrs. Pat Griffin.

We also have the services of two full time technical super geniuses Mr Mike Tarrant, Network Manager and Mr Thomas Lewis technician extraordinaire.

At Key Stage 3 students are encouraged to learn and develop the basic skills that they will need later in life. It is also the Department's aim to try and get every student to achieve at least a WJEC Key Skill Level 1 by the time that they finish year 9.

At Key Stage 4 selected students will follow the Edexcel AiDA (Award in Digital Applications) course with the intention of obtaining at least one GCSE equivalent grade.

At Key Stage 5 students can follow either the Edexcel DiDA (Diploma in Digital Applications) which is the equivalent of four GCSE equivalent grades or at AS/A2 levels, the WJEC Computing course. Past papers, notes and revision exercises are available to students on SimplyClick.

We encourage our students to learn to become independent learners, with good researching skills. We also teach them to use industry standard software including the Microsoft Office 2003 suite of programs (MicroSoft Access, MicroSoft Word, MicroSoft PowerPoint, MicroSoft Excel, MicroSoft FrontPage, MicroSoft Publisher) and the Macromedia 2004 suite of programs (Dreamweaver, Flash, Fireworks).
