Department of Childcare, Health and Development
Situated in a quiet area of the school, the department boasts its own dedicated suite of comfortable rooms including a suite of computers. This is well resourced and very popular department, housing one of the largest sixth form classes in the county.

Year 10 look at the Big Picture
We offer a range of courses to cater for all abilities, from foundation courses to National Vocational Qualifications and A levels enabling the students to branch out into more vocational qualifications of a practical nature.
Students can enter university to study psychology, teaching, nursing, socialwork, criminology etc. or use the qualifications to embark upon careers such as care-workers, healthcare assistants, hospital porters, paramedics etc.

In Year 12 the courses offered are:
Advanced Level Health and Social Care equivalent to 1 or 2 A levels
National Vocational Qualification Early Years levels 2 and 3
Learning Support Assistant Course Level 2
Health Care Assistance Course Levels 2 and 3 (in conjunction with Royal Glamorgan Hospital).

In Years 10 and 11, the courses offered include:
GCSE Child Development
BTEC Introductory Certificate level 1 in Health & Social Care
BTEC First Certificate and Diploma in Health & Social care
(This qualification is equivalent to:
- two GCSE passes at grade A-C for the BTEC First Certificate
- four GCSE passes at grade A-C for the BTEC First Diploma
The department’s history of results is excellent, with all students who apply to university being successful.
